Are you a fan of Shipping? I’m a huge fan. Some books will make me think, ‘I don’t like this ML/FL, I wish the secondary character was the MC instead.’ Or I wish these two MCs would just fall in love and kiss, they’re so good together. What’s the author thinking?’.

When did the term ‘Shipping’ actually originate? Where has it been used for good? When has it turned nasty? What are toxic tropes? How do these stories impact society when they become mainstream?

Lauren, fellow indie author and host of Writer’s Block on youtube, gives me an opportunity to explore this piece with her in Creator Conversations on Shipping & Toxic Tropes. Check out the video on youtube.

Lauren: I have a lovely chat with C. Phillip about how shipping has come into the mainstream, and how it has impacted the interactions between the fanbase and creators. Then we move onto toxic tropes that have popularised over the past two decades, and what we as creators are responsible for when targeting a younger demographic with these tropes.
