Which proofreading style guides do I refer?

I mainly refer to The Chicago Manual of Style for Fiction books and short stories.

  • Spelling check as per Oxford Dictionary
  • Hyphenation
  • Punctuation
  • Typos
  • Incorrect words
  • Repetition
  • Missing text
  • Spacing
  • Adverbs (if required)

Some examples of before and after proofreading. These are just general and not attributed to any particular story.

Before: That’s not what’s important right now.

After: That’s not important right now.

Before: He was running and stopped when he reached her.

After: He was running, and stopped when he reached her.

Before: She became sick to the point of collapsing in the street.

After: She got sick to the point of collapsing in the street.

Before: You could have suffered the same fate.

After: You might’ve suffered the same fate.

Before: They spoke thoughtfully, “…

After: They spoke, scratching their chin in deep thought, “… (You can reject this kind of change if it doesn’t suit your writing style.)

If you have a preferred style guide you would like me to follow, please let me know.

If you write UK English, I can refer to The Oxford Style Guide upon your request.

What does FREE beta-reading include?

As beta-reader, I shall point out simple plot holes, highlight dull opening lines, catch typos, missing words/sentences, pick up dialogue glitches, and give you honest feedback on your story.

What I require from the author?

Please share 2-3 sentences synopsis of your work with genre, subgenres, word count and delivery timeline. Only final edit documents will be accepted, since I don’t provide editing.

What I DO NOT do

  • No first drafts please. I will only proofread fully edited writing, especially manuscripts. Editing is an important process and must be completed before proofreading.
  • No translations please. I am an expert in the English Language, but if your work has been translated from other languages to English, then I cannot help you since I have no experience in proofreading translations.
  • No Erotica. I can manage spicy romance, but I have no experience proofreading sexually explicit content.
