Proofreading by C Phillip
This is my first major proofreading project since I started my service. Thank you to A.R. Grosjean for giving me the opportunity to work with her again.
The Goal
Proofreading and Beta-reading for a book called Nanobytes by A.R. Grosjean, a US-based author of Sc-Fi & fantasy books.
- Book Title: Nanobytes
- Genre: Sci Fi/Fantasy
- Author Name: A.R. Grosjean
- Amazon: Nanobytes
- Book link: Nanobytes
The Challenge
- Excessive use of hyphenation, especially em dashes inside dialogue.
- Repetitive words leading to paragraphs of passive sentences.
- Less Show, More Tell
- Grammar & Syntax errors
The Solution
- Uses suggesting mode on Google docs, so client can accept or reject any changes in the document.
- adds suggestions for removing excessive hyphenation and replacing them with a simpler sentence structure as per Chicago Manual of Style guidelines, along with reference link of the same.
- adds prompts for converting passive sentences into active ones.
- In case any repetitive word cannot be replaced, the goal is to check for compound sentences and offer alternative simpler sentences or add a comma in the middle.
- Corrected spellings, grammar and syntax as per Chicago Manual of Style guidelines.
- Adds suggestions for reducing word count without compromising the story.
- Adds suggestions in beta-reading for cleaning up basic plot holes, dull opening lines, dialogue glitches, etc.
